I looked for Air Force One as I drove past the Long Beach Airport on my way home tonight, but I didn't see it. Actually, the combination of freeway lights and runway lights made distinguishing anything pretty much impossible. Without crashing, at least. All of Los Angeles was geared up for President Obama's visit today and quite a few of my co-workers went outside at 3 PM to watch the plane on its descent into Long Beach. I heard on the radio this morning that Air Force One was going to land at Los Angeles International, so apparently the flight plan changed to a landing in Long Beach sometime after that. I have actually seen Air Force One before (one incarnation of it, at least) when George Bush, Sr. visited Tallahassee in either 1989 or 1990. (I tried a Google search to determine exactly when he was in Tallahassee, but nothing came up.) I was in fifth grade at the time and my Girl Scout Troop (Apalachee Bend Council Troop 258, 1984-1996) went to the Tallahassee airport to welcome the current President. I remember catching a glimpse of George H. W. Bush as he stepped out of Air Force Once, but that was about it. The best part was getting out of school for the afternoon. If I had it to do all over again I would never go all the way to the Tallahassee Regional Airport (it's a ways out of town) to visit a Republican president!
