I really need to update my webpage more often! In other news, Dan and I are going to get our Christmas tree tomorrow morning and I'm very excited about that. It's no sectret how much I love Christmas and having a tree in the house makes me happy. We haven't decorated the outside of our house yet, but some of our neighbors have put up enough lights for the entire block. I need to take some pictures and post them to show you what I mean. Tomorrow night Dan and I are going to dinner at The Stinking Rose restaurant in Beverly Hills which specializes in garlic. We've discovered that just about any dish is better with garlic so this place should be perfect for us. It's going to be a busy weekend!

I know what you mean with the neighbor's lights. There's a house in my parent's neighborhood with so many you'd swear the Griswolds had moved in.

I've been to the Stinking Rose two or three times in San Francisco. It's awesome! I hope you enjoyed it.

This place may be my new second-favorite restaurant. We totally loved it. It was incredible. I highly recommend it. The food and service were A+. Why only second favorite? Because it's going to take something truly earth-shattering to displace Ruth's Chris's Steakhouse as #1. The taste-sensation of eathing thier filet is dangerously close to an all-out chemical dependency: "If I sold my car and biked to work, I could eat here approx. 80 times per year for the next 2 years...not unreasonable...."

Glad you liked it. What did you have? I think I could go there and easily fill up on their garlic and bread. (I forget what it's called - Bagna Calda or something?)

You use strange terminology when describing your preferences, though - if I was ranking things and something fell 3rd in order, I wouldn't call it second favorite - rather, I'd say it ranked third. But you must be saying that The Stinking Rose is your second favorite, Ruth's Chris is your first favorite, and Morton's is your favorite favorite.

The other option is that you prefer Ruth's Chris to Morton's, but there's no way that's what you meant.

(Yes, I realize this is a matter of preference, but I hope you realize that your preference is wrong.)

There are many people who prefer Morton's to Ruth's Chris. I am not one of those people. There are also many people who think Gladiator deserved to win "best picture". Morton's happens to be the best way to conventionally cook a prime piece of beef. Ruth's Chris flash-cooking oven's of 800+ degrees change the whole game of how to prepare top quality beef. It's like thinking that a chevrolet Corvette is the fastest sportscar one can buy. If you live near detroit michigan, you might have reason to believe this - I wouldn't fault you. It certainly is the top of the line american sportscar. But you see, the world is a big place and Ferrari just does things differently and in many ways superior to chevrolet. To me, the difference between Morton's and Ruth's Chris is a big, big difference and one that sets Ruth's Chris apart. Morton's isn't even in my top five. It's very much the chervolet corvette of steak-houses.

Clearly, your analogy would make sense if I had never eaten at Ruth's Chris before. But I have, and was unimpressed. I have to admit that I think part of it was that I don't like the charred outside - it's possible, but unlikely, that I forget that the inside was good, and the outside wasn't. However, unless I were to bring a cheese grater along with me, the charred outside taints a good 80% of the steak.

You've really gone over the line with likening me to Gladiator-supporters, though. Claim I have no taste in food, fine. Imply I like Gladiator, and, well, sir, I take extreme offense.

So, Lauren, where do you stand on the issue? I promise not to tell Dan that you prefer Morton's.

okay, now you've hit upon it, Mr. picky eater. The charred outside ruined the rest of the steak for you. I can see that. Unfortunately it's one of those things you can either deal with and overlook, or it's not. For me, the tenderness and juicy flavor on the inside trumph anything and everything else. Or, continuing my car anology: You are going to have to accept the fact that Mechanics costs are 10 times higher for a Ferrari than a Corvette if you expect to enjoy the Ferrari. I, my good sir, enjoy the Ferrari. P.s. Sorry about the Gladiator comparison. You are right, that was a low blow.
