Iíve had a weird couple of days at work. A few weeks ago we found out that our work area was going to be turned over to another program, meaning that we were getting kicked out. Thus began the aforementioned Great Cubicle Move of 2005. We had to be out of there by the end of the day today so things were a little hectic. Most of us didnít have to move too far, but it still involved carrying boxes, books, phones, and dry erase boards from one desk to another. As I was trying to get some work done yesterday afternoon I realized that just about everyone else was in the process of moving. That made sense since our computer network had been down most of the day and our files werenít available for us to work on. And this morning our other network went down in the middle of a teleconference. All of a sudden we lost our connection and it took awhile to get it back. Then, as we were walking back to our cubicles after the meeting, the electricity went out. In the few seconds before the emergency lighting came on we were in total darkness and no one knew quite what to do. We all got a good laugh out of it, though. When I got back from lunch the cubicle move was in full swing. Our personal belongings (of which I have very few) turned out to be the easiest part of the move. We also had to prepare our computers for the movers. Disconnecting the computers was pretty disgusting work because of the accumulated dust, and having no air conditioning after noon didnít help matters. But we did finish everything before 3 PM so we got to start our weekends early. What else were we going to do without computers or phones? So, as you can tell, many strange things happened at work this week. Iím sure things will be back to normal on Monday, though, as long as I can find my new cubicle.
