Here's something I wrote two years ago, but forgot about until now:
“No matter what state I live in some manner of political scandal seems to crop up. First there was that ballot mishap in Florida during the 2000 presidential election. It doesn't matter to most people that there were no problems in Alachua County, where I was living and registered at the time, or 65 (out of 67) other counties. No, we're all incompetent by default thanks to the ill-conceived butterfly ballot and our large retired population. Thank you for resorting to generalization, America. When she saw I was from Florida, the lady who took my picture at the DMV told me not to cheat on the driver’s license test. Because of course a ballot counting problem is synonymous with cheating. Thank you for yielding to stupidity, America. And now there's the California recall election on October 7. The major candidates debated on television Wednesday night and it was almost complete chaos. I thought debates were supposed to be structured. I walked away from that broadcast wondering why anyone thinks that Arnold should be governor of California. At one point he said, ‘I just realized I have the perfect role for you in T4.’ Isn't that just what you want your governor to say when faced with adversity?”
