Excessive spending has taken place over the past two days. Right now my apartment is full of bags and boxes of recently acquired items for my apartment. Most notably, I got some dishes. So as soon as I make it to the grocery store I can stop patronizing fast food places in the area.

Excessive web surfing has taken place at my apartment today. And that's pretty much it. The pictures above are from my cousin Shannon's wedding on August 18. Explanations can be found in my photo album (the pictures are in the main album). Thanks to Dan I am hooked on Homestar Runner and I don't have time to type anything else right now.

My apartment is a mess. Since I arrived last night I haven't spent much time organizing. I haven't done much of anything today. Eventually I will need to go out because I don't have anything to eat here. That means I need to get dressed. How annoying.

I've been in Tallahassee for two days and so far all I've accomplished is buying jeans and arranging utilities for my new apartment. That is, if eating See's chocolates doesn't count as an accomplishment. And I'm not even going to keep all of the jeans I bought today. I have been shopping like my mom - buying first and evaluating later. My dad purchased a DVD player today with my limited assistance. Now we can watch the copy of "Fellowship of the Ring" I ordered for him. After we get it set up successfully.

Since my new apartment doesn't have a phone line yet this is going to be my last posting from the West Coast for a week. Today I am moving the rest of my stuff from Seal Beach to Los Angeles and seeing "Phantom of the Opera" at the Orange County Performing Arts Center. Tomorrow I am flying to Tallahassee to see my family. I'll post updates from there next week.

The problem with being busy is that everything on your to do list comes to mind as soon as you wake up. Even if it's 6:30 AM on a Saturday. I guess I had better get up and start checking things off. *yawn*

I am unemployed again. And I have to move again. Bummer. I'll miss the paycheck and the (relatively) low rent payment here in Seal Beach. For the next couple of years I am going to be a poor college student again. But a poor college student with a cool, if expensive, apartment in Los Angeles all to herself.

The Boeing employee clearance checklist, a form I have to fill out because my last day is Friday, has "deceased" as an option for leaving the company. Somehow I don't think a deceased person is going to be worrying about this form. How cares if they had access to proprietary information or had overdue library books? In other news, "The Producers" is coming to LA next year! I am buying my tickets tomorrow.

It took a couple of days, but I have a new diary entry posted concerning my recent graduate school aquisitions. Expect more in this vein as I face the challenge of moving to my new apartment this week. The chaos starts here.

From an Associated Press article on a Japanese ID program:
"To start with, giving a number to people is a violation of our individual human rights," said Eiji Yoshimura, one of the protesters.
How does this make our Social Security number system look?

I am about halfway through a diary entry describing the last two days of grad school purchases, but it won't be finished tonight. In short: yesterday I bought a bed and today I got a quilt and sheets for it. Important (and not inexpensive) purchases.

August is improving as it progresses. Still stressful, but looking up. Besides my apartment, the only two things I have bought for my graduate school experience so far are a memo board and a backpack. I did fall in love with the furniture at Ikea this afternoon, though. My Handspring lists the dresser, bookshelf, and tables that I am planning to buy as soon as I get the chance. Tomorrow's mission is to buy a bed. I hope my luck continues through that task.

Well, August hasn't started out so well. I am hoping things can only get better. Besides my personal life, my biggest concern in furnishing my new apartment. This weekend I will drive up to UCLA and do some shopping there. Maybe then I'll have more to report.
